Joseph William Namath, May 31, 1943, is a former American football quarterback who played in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons, mostly with the New York Jets. He was selected by the Jets first in the 1965 AFL Draft.

In his five AFL seasons, he was a two-time MVP and twice led the league in passing yards while guiding the Jets to a victory in one AFL championship and one Super Bowl. Both victories remain the Jets' only championships. 1977 was his final year in the NFL it was spent as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams are based in the Los Angeles metro area. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the National Football Conference West division.

The Rams play their home games at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The club has won three NFL championships, and is the only NFL franchise to win championships representing three cities (Cleveland in 1945, Los Angeles in 1951, and St. Louis in 1999).

Nicknamed "Broadway Joe", Namath became a media icon whose on-field success, fashion and personality attracted mainstream popularity. Namath remains one of the league's most iconic and popular figures. He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

Namath cemented his legacy in 1969 when he boldly guaranteed his heavy underdog Jets would win Super Bowl III before defeating the NFL's Baltimore Colts in one of the greatest sports upsets of all time. Namath received Super Bowl MVP honors.
