Within the USA, the National Football League's all-time leading scorer played what position?
Kickers are the highest-scoring players in the NFL because they get the most real scoring chances. Every time his team scores a touchdown, he gets the chance to score a point. Every time his team gets to the 35, he gets the chance to score three points. If his offense is good, the kicker can rack up a ton of points.
And that is to say that, Adam Vinatieri is the all-time leading scorer and a kicker. Vinatieri began his career in New England in 1996, headed to Indianapolis in 2016, and, incredibly, is still going. Vinatieri is 47 years old and still not retired from the NFL. He has 2,673 career points. With that said, Vinatieri's 2019 season was cut short by knee surgery and so it's possible Vinatieri will finally hang up his cleats. If he does, he'll retire as the NFL's all-time leading scorer — and if not, we'll keep counting.
