Vimala Padmaraj, maybe it depends on WHERE you grew up then? I also speak British English and live in Australia. Here it has always been an eggplant

Leapy Lee, YES IT IS NOT ONLY THE "APPLES" THAT WERE CRAZY. SOME OF THE QUIZ QUESTIONS TOO ARE CRAZY. ALSO AS A PERSON WHO GREW UP TALKING ENGLISH OF THE BRITISH KIND - EGGPLANTS USED TO BE CALLED "BRINGAL" BY EVERYONE.

AS A PERSON WHO GREW UP WITH BRITISH ENGLISH LANGUAGE, THE EGG PLANT WAS ALWAYS CALLED "BRINGAL".

Apparently eggplants/aubergines were known in Italy as crazy apples in the 16th Century. That is a fairly obscure fact that I doubt too many people would ever have heard.
