On the 1966-67 ABC TV show, "The Green Hornet," it used the song "Flight of the Bumblebee" written by Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov for his opera 'The Tale of Tsar Saltan' (1899), as its opening theme song. This song was arranged by Billy May, conducted by Lionel Newman, and performed with trumpet solo by Al Hirt. It was music that was blended with a hornet buzz created on an electronic musical instrument (theremin).

The opening TV theme music became so strongly identified with the idea of the Green Hornet and his partner (Kato) as heroes and icons that it was retained as the theme for later motion pictures. The popular TV and movie version of the song was performed in a jazz style nicknamed "Green Bee". This particular version was subsequently featured in the 2003 film directed by Quentin Tarantino about personal revenge on a team of assassins "Kill Bill: Volume One".
