According to a popular superstition, what bird's feathers should never be in a house as decoration?
An old superstition claims that having peacock feathers in the house not only brings bad luck but destines any unmarried female to become an old maid.
Many actors will not allow peacock feathers to be brought onto the stage either as a prop or part of a costume and veteran actors and directors have recounted tales of sets falling down during performances that involve peacock feathers.
It is thought the superstition originated in the Mediterranean where the evil eye markings are said to represent the eye of he she-devil Lilith who is responsible for the unexplained deaths of children. By keeping peacock feathers in the house she is ever present and able to watch over your home.
However, in India, China and Japan bringing peacock feathers indoors is actually supposed to increase good luck by providing extra eyes around the house to protect the occupants from danger.

I have never heard that one before . I have had peacock feathers decorating my home for over 40 years . Nothing but exceptional blessings here .

I knew this because many years ago someone bought my mum some in a vase as a gift. I think they were quite expensive at the time as soon as the woman left my mum kept the vase and threw the feathers out. A neighbour asked if she could have them, mum explained they were bad luck but she was welcome to them. The neighbour was really pleased she loved them, about 4 months after receiving them she won a large amount of money on the Premium Bonds. So much for bad luck ha ha

Just as well I don't believe in any superstitions at all. I have blue peacock feathers and white ones, had them for years and only once told to get rid of them by a visitor who said she won't come into my home while I had them, still got them and she hasn't been in my home.

Native Americans where l live are notoriously superstitious, believing that when a bird flys into the house, someone will die before a year goes by unless the bird is killed. I was having none of it. I crawled out from under the burden of superstitions and old wive's tales when l was a very young woman being tutored by my Cherokee Gramma (who similiarly believed in such things). I could find no value in these meaningless tabu and l have never regretted that decision.

Never heard of this & don't believe it. My Mother used peacock feathers as decorations in her home and neither increased nor decreased luck in her house.

Boni Forte, My grandmother said a crow is a sign of death. Maybe, it is because they are scavengers. She was Italian-American. I also was seeking crow as one of the options. Thank you, Christine, James's wife

I visited a rescue shelter zoo this year, Popcorn Park Zoo, in New Jersey. Many of the peacocks were spreading their tails. Unfortunately, I saw at least three families carrying peacock feathers in bundles. I do not know if the feathers ever fall out like that, or they plucked the poor birds. People can adopt an animal from there to help support it. The zoo sends a photo and letters, I believe. Thank you, Christine, James's wife
