Actor George C. Scott won an Academy Award for his performance in the 1970 movie Patton. Why did he refuse the award?

George C. Scott (October 18, 1927-September 22, 1999) refused the award on philosophical reasons. He said that every dramatic performance was unique and therefore could not be compared to others.

He told his then wife, Colleen Dewhurst, "The whole thing is a goddamn meat parade. I don't want any part of it".

He did not turn down the New York Film Critics Award as Dewhurst would later recall. "George thinks this is the only film award worth having".

Why wouldn't being in a "meat parade" be more like "treatment of fellow actors" than philosophical.which is a search for general understanding. The question displays a poor understanding of how to reach a correct conclusion.

I liked the part when he slapped the cry baby soldier cuz he got nervous. Other soldiers are out there getting shot at and blown up and this guy is in the medical unit because he is nervous?

According to his IMDB biography, he didn't really give a reason. He said the reason he missed the ceremony was that he was busy watching a hockey game. That suggests that he really didn't care about the Oscars.

The agent whose actor has won an award instantly becomes more important and can charge more. The designer who dressed the actor is known by everyone.Even the company who fills the goody bags is now famous.It is all about making more money. They don't care about the acting or actors. The actors are just props. No more important than the crystal on the tables. There to look good.
