Best known for his role as Jaws in the James Bond franchise, the actor who portrayed the character in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and again in Moonraker (1979) was Richard Kiel (September 1939 – September 2014). In The Spy Who Loved Me, Richard Kiel as Jaws was a seemingly indestructible juggernaut of a henchman. He worked for Karl Stromberg, the main villain, a megalomaniac planning to trigger World War III and destroy the world.

In the role of Jaws, Kiel is afflicted with gigantism and has a set of metal teeth. He is a highly skilled killer who relies on his brute strength and will improvise any situation to quickly dispatch his victims. Critics tell us that Jaws is one of the most popular of the James Bond henchmen.

Initially, in The Spy Who Loved Me, it concluded with Jaws being killed by a shark. However after a private test screening (where director Lewis Gilbert's grandson was present), Jaws was so well-liked that the ending scene was changed to have him survive. Jaws will next appear in Moonraker as Hugo Drax's replacement bodyguard after Chang, a chief guard, is killed. He still has gigantism and is in possession of a set of stainless steel teeth.
