In 1959 the actor Sheb Wooley got his big professional acting opportunity when he was hired as the scout (Pete Nolan) in the CBS Western TV show "Rawhide" (1959–1966). He was able to work with Eric Fleming, Clint Eastwood, and Paul Brinegar. Additionally Sheb was able to write and direct some of the episodes for the show.

Wooley also got chances at the time that he was on "Rawhide" to perform in several major films; they were: 'Giant', 'The Outlaw Josey Wales', 'Silverado', and 'Hoosiers' which starred Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey, and Dennis Hopper. In the film 'Hoosiers', Wooley portrayed Cletus Summers (Hackman's longtime friend and ally in coaching the Hoosiers High School basketball team).

With more than 70 years in the acting profession, Sheb Wooley got the chance to portray hundreds of roles in movies and on the small scene in well known CBS and ABC TV Series. He also wrote hundreds of songs that topped the Billboard™ pop charts; he had a #1 hit with the song 'The Purple People Eater'. Wooley was a man of many talents; he was singer, a comedian, and an actor who played numerous roles, from a famous cowhand, rodeo rider, bad guy villain, and high school principal. He was 82 years old when he died in 2003 in Nashville, TN.
