After ending his run as Dr. Richard Kimble on the U.S. TV series "The Fugitive", David Janssen appeared in which film opposite John Wayne?
David Janssen is best remembered for his role as 'Dr. Richard Kimble' in the ABC 1963 - 1967 drama series "The Fugitive". It is a series about a Midwest doctor falsely convicted of murdering his wife and his escape from custody. Kimble conducts an intense search over several years for the actual killer. Once "The Fugitive" is over, David Janssen appears in the film"The Green Berets" (1968) opposite John Wayne.
"The Green Berets" is a wartime film. It's about Colonel Mike Kirby’s U.S. Army squadron and George Beckworth's (David Janssen) involvement as the cynical newspaper reporter who critiques on the war and America's involvement. Kirby dares Beckworth to go to Vietnam and see the war for himself. He needs to get a good idea on what he’s even talking about. To his considerable credit, Beckworth also dares Kirby, he wants to accompany Kirby’s squad to the actual fighting.
Beckworth goes to Vietnam and sees and hears things; he sees a terrible series of atrocities committed by the Viet Cong, culminating in the devastation and desecration of a civilian village before its inhabitants can seek aid from an American base. Bit by bit, Beckworth's resolve collapses. He will humbly admit that he too often jumps to wrong conclusions about the war. He’s just one man. He notes in the film that he will look more closely at the reasons and explanations of the whys and wherefores of the United States participating in the Vietnam War. America needs the truth.
