Sardinia is an island located in the Western Mediterranean Sea and an autonomous region of Italy. It is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily and before Cyprus), with an area of 24,100 square kilometers (9,305 square miles).

It is situated between Isola del Toro and Isola La Presa and east of Capo dell'Argentiera and Capo Comino. To the west of Sardinia is the Sea of Sardinia, a unit of the Mediterranean Sea. To Sardinia's east is the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is also a feature of the Mediterranean Sea.

Specifically, the coasts of Sardinia are generally high and rocky, with long, relatively straight stretches of coastline. Sardinia has many outstanding headlands, a few wide, deep bays, rias, and typical inlets.
