"The Manchurian Candidate" received a very high approval rating (97%) from moviegoers and critics; it was based on over 600 US reviews. The movie was called distressingly relevant; it got a critical written consensus which noted: "A classic blend of satire and political drama that is uncomfortably prescient in its own time".
Commercially the film grossed $7.7 million on a $2.2 million budget.
