There is NO cure for rabies. This answer is wrong. There is an innoculation to prevent it, but no cure.

Rabies I believe has an incubation period. So if you get bitten and get the vaccine soon enough, your body combats the rabies virus before the end of the incubation period. This is why you may not die if you get bitten and receive the vaccine. So true, there may not be a cure but there is a vaccine which will most likely save your life if started in time.

Louis Pasteur's cure for hydrophobia, whilst it works, is not popular nowadays. I had the Merieux vaccine whilst working as a Customs Officer in Dover, Kent. It is a prophylactic which is reckoned to be 100% effective against contracting hydrophobia. Consists of 1 initial injection in the arm followed by 1 more a month later, with a booster 1 year after that. Thereafter 1 every 3 years to maintain protection. Think I'd rather have the prophylactic than the stomach lining injections after contracting the disease.

Bonnie Oliver Binford, Not true. In unvaccinated humans, rabies is almost always fatal after neurological symptoms have developed. Vaccination after exposure, PEP, is highly successful in preventing the disease if administered promptly, in general within 6 days of infection. Begun with little or no delay, PEP is 100% effective against rabies.
