As of 2016, which of the following countries was home to the world’s largest ballpoint pen?
As of 2016, the largest ballpoint pen in the world measured 18+ feet (5.5 m) long, weighed a fraction over 82 pounds (37.23 kg) and was located in India.
Designed by Acharya Makunuri Srinivasa, of Nizamabad, India, the pen was unveiled, measured, and entered into the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ in Hyderabad, India, on April 24, 2011. Per Guinness guidelines, the enormous pen dispenses ink from the tip via the rolling action of a small metal sphere, just like its more manageably-sized relatives.
The record achievement was an incredibly proud moment for inventor Archarya, and his whole village turned out to witness the pen's momentous debut demonstration. He explained that it was inspired by a pen his mother had given him as a young boy.
The brilliant gold surface of the pen is engraved with scenes from Indian mythology. Due to its length and weight, the pen takes several people to handle, but it is said to write like a dream.
It may not be easy to use, and certainly won’t fit in a pocket protector, but as of 2016, Acharya’s huge invention was still featured in the ‘Guinness World Records Book’.
