‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ is the name of eight (as of 2020) fictional animated productions of the singing group, either in films or film productions that went direct-to- video. The entire productions were created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. (1991-1972), an American singer-songwriter.

The first film was about the Saturday-morning cartoon series of the same name, titled ‘The Chipmunk Adventure’, released in 1987. The second production appeared two decade later in 2007, ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’. This was followed two years later by ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakquel’. In 2011 the fourth action musical family comedy adventure film was released, ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked’. The fifth in the series was called ‘The Road Chip’.

The remaining productions went direct-to-video starting with the sixth release, ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein’, a 1999 animated comedy horror production and the first production to be animated overseas by Tama Productions in Tokyo, Japan. It was followed by number seven in the series a year later, ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman’ which served as a spiritual sequel. The eighth production in the series was ‘Little Alvin and the Mini-Munks’, a 2003 direct-to-video based on the Chipmumks 1983-1990 television series ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’.

The live action animated films are the highest-grossing live-action/animated film series and 6th highest-grossing musical film series of all time.
