Stephen Edwin King (born 1947) is an American author whose books have sold more than 350 million copies, and many have been adapted into films.

He has at least 34 written works that were turned into movies. Beginning with 1976's "Carrie" through 2017's remake of "It". This makes him the author with the most film adaptations.

He has also written original screenplays and episodic TV over the last 40 years. King's the only author who has actually directed an adaptation of his own work with "Maximum Overdrive". Riding the runaway success of "It", new versions of "The Shining", "The Stand" and "Pet Sematary" seem all but certain. Also, the recently debuted Hulu series "Castle Rock," is a new story that takes place in the established King universe.

If you had to guess which author not named Stephen King has the most film adaptations, you would be forgiven for guessing Ian Fleming, John Grisham, or J.K. Rowling. They're close, but as of 2020, Nicholas Sparks is the reigning champ with 11 movies.
