As of 2023, what colors are included on the beak of the cartoon bird mascot on "Froot Loops" cereal?
"Froot Loops" is a sweetened, fruit-flavored breakfast cereal introduced by Kellogg's in 1963 and sold in many countries. The cereal pieces are ring-shaped (hence "loops") and come in a variety of bright colors and fruit flavors (hence "froot").
Since 1963 "Toucan Sam" has been the cartoon mascot for the cereal. He exhibits the ability to smell "Froot Loops" from great distances and locates a concealed bowl while saying, "Follow your nose! It always knows!", sometimes followed by "The flavor of fruit! Wherever it grows!"
Although his nose originally had two pink stripes, during the 1970s it became a tradition that each stripe on his nose represented one of the original flavors of the pieces in the cereal: (red = cherry, yellow = lemon, orange = orange). The additions of new colors/flavors have made this color scheme no longer accurate. There are now six colors of cereal. "Toucan Sam's" beak now contains the colors yellow, red, orange, green, purple with a black tip.
Originally, there were only red, orange and yellow loops; green, blue and purple loops were added during the 1990s, with blue being introduced last in 1996 and not added to his beak. Different production methods are used in the UK, where the company misleadingly sold the idea that each individual loop color was a different flavor. Kellogg's has acknowledged that all pieces and colors now share the same fruit-blend flavor.
