The 1980 song "All Out of Love" was written by Graham Russell and Clive Davis for the British/Australian soft rock duo Air Supply (Russell and Russell Hitchcock). It is from the group's 5th studio album "Lost in Love". This song was known for vocalist Hitchcock holding the final note for 16.2 seconds. This was the longest-held note for a male pop singer until 1983, when Sheriff lead vocalist Freddy Curci held the final note of "When I'm with You" for 19.4 seconds.

Sheriff was a Canadian rock band in the early 1980s. They released one album, their self-titled 1982 release that included "When I'm With You". The song was a hit in Canada, reaching No. 8 on the Canadian pop charts. In the US, it was only a minor hit, topping out at No. 61 on the "Billboard" Hot 100. Sheriff broke up by 1985, and the guys in the band went their separate ways.

In late 1988, a few DJs on their local stations in the US start playing "When I'm With You". The song started to gain popularity. Capitol Records re-released it as a single, and it went to No. 1 on the "Billboard" Hot 100 in February 1989, becoming one of the only songs in the MTV era to hit No. 1 without a music video. Now, the last note of the song, which singer Freddy Curci sustains for 19.4 seconds, is the longest known note sustained by a male singer in pop history as of April 2022.
