In basketball a ’double’ is an achievement in which a player records a double-digit number in one of the following five statistical categories: points, total rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. A quadruple-double is the accumulation of a double-digit number total in four of the five statistical categories. It is an exceptionally rare feat because it's extremely difficult to obtain double-digit numbers in blocks or steals. There have only been five recorded quadruple-doubles in NBA history.

Hakeem ”The Dream” Olajuwon is the only person in NBA history to record more than one quadruple-double in a game during his career.

On March 3, 1990, Olajuwon was absolutely dominant, finishing with 29 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists, and 11 blocks.

On March 29, 1990, Hakeem the Dream was again unstoppable, on his way to 18 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists, and 11 blocks.

Shaquille O’Neal, on June 8, 2007, Scored 28 points, 20 rebounds, 9 assists and 8 blocks. The closest a player has come to achieving the quadruple-double in the NBA playoffs.

Nate Thurmond was the first player in recorded history to have a quadruple-double, on October 18, 1974, with a stat line of 22 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists, and 12 blocks.

The last recorded quadruple-double was accomplished by David Robinson. On February 17, 1994, Robinson scored 34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 blocks.
