Serena Williams, (born September 26, 1981, Saginaw, Michigan, U.S.) is an American tennis player who revolutionized women’s tennis with her powerful style of play and who won more Grand Slam singles titles (23) than any other woman or man during the open era. (The first open tournament was the British Hard Courts at Bournemouth in April 1968).

Williams is widely regarded to be one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. She holds the most Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles combined among active players. Her 39 Grand Slam titles put her joint-third on the all-time list and second in the Open Era: 23 in singles, 14 in women's doubles, and two in mixed doubles. She is the most recent female player to have held all four Grand Slam singles titles simultaneously (2002–03 and 2014–15) and the third player to achieve this twice.

Wrong! Absolutely wrong! I rarely get steamed up, but this particular subject really upsets me! The greatest tennis player, male and female, who has ever picked up a racket, is Margaret Court!! I will never forgive Tennis Australia for allowing the disgusting display put on by John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova, at the Australian Open in 2020, to be shown on TV. For the entire tournament leading up to the semifinals, John McEnroe raved about how much he wanted Serena Williams to win so Margaret Court was no longer the best ever player. Then he and Navratilova held up a revolting banner on centre court reviling Margaret Court for her view on gay marriage. She’s a Christian pastor! What view would you expect her to have? And for the record, she has never expressed her view unless she’s been asked. She does not gratuitously go about spouting her view, but when she’s asked she says what she believes in a quiet, respectful manner. Also for the record, I don’t agree with her view and I’m not a Christian, but I’m sick to death of those who consider it their right to abuse and denigrate someone because they don’t share the same views. I’m even wondering if the author of the question is refusing to give Margaret Court the respect she deserves because she doesn’t hold the politically correct view.

Not accurate. She fell one short of Margaret Court, losing several grand slam finals before she retired. I won't be shocked if she unretires, as Venus did this year.
