The right answer is Maine. Although Augusta is the capital, Portland is Maine's largest city.

Georgia's capital is Atlanta. Atlanta is also the state capital with the most populous metro area in the U. S.

Mississippi's capital is Jackson. Jackson is distinguished by being the only state capital that shares its status as county seat with another city (Raymond, Mississippi).

Wisconsin's capital is Madison. Madison may be the state capital but Milwaukee is the largest city in the state.

It amazes me that some of these cities may be their state capitals but they are not their states largest cities. In fact, many cities may be larger than they are. However; in other states where the capital is the largest city there is something truly unique about them. For instance, Atlanta, is not only the state capital and largest city, but it is the metro population that gives it this status. In Wisconsin for example it has nothing to do with a busy metro section but just a busy beer city like Milwaukee to claim "the largest city in the state" status.

Mississippi distinguishes itself by having it's state capital be the only state capital in the country to share it's status as "county seat" with another city. That city being Raymond, Mississippi. It is a unique symbiotic relationship for both cities.

There is uniqueness to many other state capitals here in the United States and also to many of the cities and towns you are familiar with throughout the country.
