Derrick Morris (Derek Terrence Morris, b. August 1978, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada), a Canadian former professional ice hockey, was a defenceman who played in over 1100 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Phoenix Coyotes, Boston Bruins, and New York Rangers. He was originally drafted out of the Western Hockey League (WHL) as the 13th overall pick by the Calgary Flames in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
During his professional career as a hockey player, Derek played in three leagues. He started in the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 1995 with the Regina Pats, a major junior hockey team based in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The team played in the Regina Exhibition Stadium. He next joined the American Hockey League (AHL), a minor professional hockey league that has operated from 1936 to 2022. Derek was a member of the Saint John Flames for the 1996—97 season. His team was located in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada and played at Harbour Station. After playing in the AHL, Derek got an opportunity to play in the NHL, starting in the 1997—98 season.
Derek again played for five NHL teams in over 1100 games; he stopped playing at the end of the 2013–14 season. He was then based in Phoenix, AZ; he was a player for the Phoenix Coyotes. He never officially announced his retirement; he has however not been an active player since 2013–14. He is as of 2023 an assistant high school coach at Chaparral High, located in Scottsdale, Arizona.
