Brooke Shields made 1980 U.S. TV commercials where nothing came between her and her jeans. In several of the ads, Shields asks, “You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”

Fashion designer Calvin Klein launched a jeans clothing line in 1978. He was one of the first, if not the first, high-fashion designer to introduce a denim jeans line for women. By 1979, the company had sold $70 million worth of women’s jeans. To improve on his success, Klein used Shields in a number of sexy ads and commercials. The print ads and videos had Shields making comments about her Calvin jeans. The most popular were shot by Richard Avedon.

When wearing her Calvin jeans, Brooke Shields looked very appealing. They featured a distinctive stitch pattern on the back along with a Calvin Klein label. This label was used to distinguish them as a status symbol. Klein's idea for his "designer" jeans was based upon Elio Fiorucci’s skin-tight “Safety Jeans” which were worn by famous movie and rock stars of the '70s and '80s.
