Charles Curtis was an American politician, known as the first man of significant Native American origin to reach a high political position. He entered political life at the age of 32 and became a U.S. Senator on the 29th of January, 1907. It is an interesting fact that in 1929 he was elected as the 31st Vice President of the United States. What a success!

The correct answer given was Charles Curtis. But per Wikipedia (at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Native_Americans_in_the_United_States_Congress) a Hiram Revels, of Lumbee Tribal Ancestry, was. His term started 2/23/1870--37 years before Charles Curtis!!!
