It's game, not a sport. Look at the dictionary. What next? Bridge, dominoes, darts?!!

I wish you had a reference to support your answer. Because I disagree. The IOC recognizes Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) but does not acknowledge that chess is a sport.

Terrible question. How can you call it the Olympic International Committee and then abbreviate it as the IOC?

Is chess a sport? Some strong opinions generated below.
But the question is about recognition which has been done.
"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has labeled chess as a sport and recognizes FIDE as an official federation. However, it is not approved for the Olympics."
As stated above "Chess was featured as an exhibition sport at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney". Though not for regular inclusion in the Olympic program. So far!

Ilias Tsiabardas, I wouldn't say that it is a sport in the sense of a phyical sport like athletics, Gymnastics, Boxing (which boxing I don't class as a sport either). Chess is more a mind controlled sport, but a sport in it's own right, which not too many see it as, one that needs a lot of concentration and thinking ahead.

Unfortunately, I don't believe it should be included. I do admire the mental gymnastics, intellect, and skills of strategy that players use, but it's not really a "sport"...
