A giant tortoise can live for approximately 150-250 years, blue whales can live into their eighties, and some species of sharks can live for hundreds of years. Given that it takes other species so long to grow to their enormous size, it is interesting to find that giant squids live only up to five years or so. In their short lives, they go from being an egg to a potential maximum body length of 13 metres (43 ft) for females and 10 metres for males with a mass of around 275 kilograms for females and 150 kilograms for males.
