Doc Hudson is one of the primary characters in the first of three films in Disney Pixar's "Cars" franchise, based on the 1951 Hudson Hornet and voiced by Paul Newman. Doc is the physician and judge of Radiator Springs while formerly known as the famous racecar called the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, donning the number 51 in Piston Cup races. His career came to a devastating end when he suffered a horrific crash in a 1954 race. He kept an article of the events that happened to him that day, vowing never to return to a life that had been taken away from him.

When Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson), ended up crashing into Radiator Springs, Doc sentenced McQueen to do community service. After McQueen did his time, he found out about Doc's career as a legendary racecar, much to the dismay of Doc himself. As Lightning traveled to California in time for the final Piston Cup race, Doc led the entire town there and became his crew chief, being acknowledged by the commentary crew for his return to the field of auto racing. Doc eventually taught Lightning several important lessons and became his friend and mentor.

The first "Cars" film would be Doc's only major role in the series, as his voice actor, Paul Newman, died in 2008, a few years before "Cars 2", released in 2011.
