On Oct. 7, 2012, the Saints Drew Brees sent the NFL record for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass, surpassing the 47-game mark held by Baltimore Colts Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas.

Unitas held the record for 52 years and his mark was once considered untouchable, similar to Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak and Wilt Chamberlain's single-season scoring record of 50.4 points per game.

Brees' streak ended Nov. 29, 2012 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Unitas, who passed away in 2002 at 69, started his streak in the last game of the 1956 season. The streak ended on Dec. 11, 1960 in the Colts 10-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

To understand just how remarkable the record is, Unitas broke Cecil Isbell's mark of 23 consecutive games that was set in 1942.

However, many quarterbacks have had impressive streaks. Tom Brady made a serious charge at Brees, but his effort ended at 52 games on Sept. 29, 2013. Peyton Manning had a 51 game streak that started in 2010 as a member of the Indianapolis Colts and ended in 2014 while playing for the Denver Broncos. Manning missed the 2011 season with an injury. Because he did not play in a game, the streak survived.

Brees also had a 45-game streak from 2012 to 2015.

Dan Marino's best effort was a 30-game streak.
