Encaustic is a painting medium that uses four parts bees wax, one part oil paint (originally linseed oil and pigment) that is mixed together. Then it can be applied to a canvas, board or other stable foundation laying flat. Then it is heated to manipulate it and create the look you like. Let it cure for 30 days before displaying. After it cures, it can actually be polished with a soft cotton cloth to give it a shiny finish.
