English is an official EU language of which country?

The European Union is a political and economic union consisting of 27 member states.

Not all official languages of member states are official languages of the EU however.

There are 24 official languages of the EU, three of these are given the higher status of "procedural" languages of the European Commission. These three languages are English, French, and German.

Although the United Kingdom has officially left the EU, English actually remains the official language of two EU Nations.

Ireland and Malta both have English as an official language. Both of these countries have historical links to the United Kingdom.

English is the most widely understood language within the EU, with roughly 44% of the population understanding it.

Gary McLean, No trick to this question, UK isn't in EU and also it doesn't have an official language,

I find it hard to believe that quizzers still don’t understand the difference between an official language and a de facto language. I am Australian. We mostly all speak English, but we have no offical language which is exactly the same as the UK and the US. Even though the UK has now withdrawn from the EU, they were never a correct answer to this question.

Contrary to previous answers, the UK is NOT a member of the EU officially leaving on the 31st January 2020. It has no members of the European Parliament nor is on any committees. There are still agreements to be made over trade etc, but these are ongoing talks between 2 seperate entities.

John Moore, actually we have left, however the United Kingdom doesn't have an official language, English is the de facto language but not official

John Moore, incorrect. The UK has officially left the EU. We are in a transition period whereby most things remain the same. A simple Google search would have told you this.

The UK has not actually left the EU and won't until there is a deal or the UK leaves without a deal. That hasn't happened yet and until it has the UK is a valid answer
