Population density is the amount of people a state has, spread out equally over the land mass of the state. Alaska is so large that it has only 1 person per square mile when population density is figured. Wyoming is next with only 6 people per square mile. Montana is close behind that with only 7 people per square mile.

By comparison, New Jersey is the state with the most population density at 1,218 people per square mile.

Wyoming has a total population of 586,107 people and a land mass of 97,100 square miles. Wyoming is in the western U.S. located just below Montana and above Colorado.

Wyoming's best known feature is "Yellowstone National Park" which takes up the north/west corner of the state.
