In the film "Training Day," Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) is a corrupt Los Angeles cop who's teamed with a newbie, Officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke). It is a dingy tale of morality overflowing with many acts of violence.

The film resonates louder and louder with each instance of police violence that is presented on the movie screen. It shows us that those in power bend their institutions to subdue good and bad people in the communities. At the same time, the film deals with ambition, the length that “heroes” will or should go to do “good." The standard: “the ends justify the means” is often used in the more urban and realistic setting. When the events of the film come to a climax and Officer Hoyt draws a firm line, his new world view clashes directly with Alonzo’s, and there is simply no room for anyone to give an inch.
