As the only North American newspaper to promote thought that is free of religious influence, “Freethought Today” is published 10 times a year. It is available monthly, except for a combined edition in summer (June and July) and in winter (January and February). The publication focuses on matters concerning the separation of church and state and reports on the actions of its parent association, the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF).

The FFRF is headquartered in a former church rectory in Madison, Wisconsin. It raises funds not only to publish “Freethought Today” and broadcast “Freethought Radio”, but to host events, educate the public, conduct outreach programs, and pay legal fees and services to support separation of church and state and help those who are oppressed for their beliefs.

“Freethought Today” reported that, in association with the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science, the FFRF started the “The Clergy Project” in March of 2011. TCP provides confidential support for disillusioned clergy who leave their faith.

Other matters covered in the newspaper include, for example, the announcement that FFRF and the Secular Student Alliance began advising students of their rights and helping correct incidents of violation of those rights. Also reported was the 2015 announcement of a new FFRF charity, “Nonbelief Relief”, to ease suffering due to natural disasters and religious dogma-related incidents.
