Gerard James Butler (born 13 November 1969) is a Scottish actor and film producer. After studying law, Butler turned to acting in the mid-1990s with one of his small roles in the James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997). He only had one line in his blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance aboard the doomed HMS Devonshire, but at least he got to use his Scottish accent. He gained worldwide recognition for his portrayal of King Leonidas in Zack Snyder's fantasy war film "300". That role earned him nominations for an Empire Award for Best Actor and a Saturn Award for Best Actor and a win for MTV Movie Award for Best Fight.

"Tomorrow Never Dies" is a spy film and the eighteenth in the James Bond series to be produced by Eon Productions, and the second to star Pierce Brosnan as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. Directed by Roger Spottiswoode, with the screenplay written by Bruce Feirstein, the film follows Bond as he attempts to stop Elliot Carver, a power-mad media mogul, from engineering world events to initiate World War III.
