HBO's U.S. TV series "The Wire" (2002 - 2008) examines various aspects of urban life in the evocative and colorful American city of Baltimore, MD. This is a series that looks at the narcotics scene in Baltimore through the eyes of law enforcement officers. The officers examine their own behavior as well as that of drug dealers and users. Other critical facets of the city are also explored in the series. They include the government and bureaucracy, schools and education, and the news media. The show was created by former police reporter David Simon; he was able to provide many of the TV screenplays that used real-life fact situations on almost all of the episodes.
The entire number of episodes in this series "The Wire" is sixty. The show's creators and writers stated that they saw the show as an opportunity to explore how many individuals (men and women) within certain communities ended up with criminal personas like the show's criminal characters. This show was a means to dramatize the idea that hard work was not always justly rewarded.
