Mount Timpanogos is located in the Wasatch Mountains south of Salt Lake City, Utah. It is a prominent skyline feature from several nearby cities like Provo, American Fork, and Orem. Timpanogos is named after the Timpanogots tribe who lived in the surrounding valleys from AD 1400. A legend of the mountain is that a maiden laid down to rest while waiting for her betrothed to return. At times, Timpanogos is called "Sleeping Maiden."

Mount Susitna is a part of the Alaska Range of mountains just west of downtown Anchorage, Alaska. It is easily visible across Cook Inlet from the city and is often called Sleeping Lady. Susitna is the name of a nearby river and means "sandy river" in the Denai'ina language.

That both prominent mountains resemble a reclining woman is remarkable from the view of each of those cities.
