How are 'The A Team' described in the opening titles of the TV series?

The A-Team is an American action-adventure television series that ran on NBC from 1983 to 1987 about former members of a fictitious United States Army Special Forces unit. The members, after being court-martialed "for a crime they didn't commit", escaped from military prison and, while still on the run, worked as soldiers of fortune. The series was created by Stephen J. Cannell and Frank Lupo. A feature film based on the series was released by 20th Century Fox in June 2010.

The opening narration of 'The A Team' is:

"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the A-Team."

Dang. I used to watch the show all the time, one of those shows that was so bad it was good. I love George Peppard's acting, wish he had done more in his career. I must have heard those opening lines a hundred times but I missed it!

I missed that one and I loved the A team..it was well into the season when I started so maybe that's how I missed the escaped prisoner part?

Actually, they DID commit the crime, under orders. But when they returned from the mission, their commanding officer had been killed, and his replacement had them arrested to score points with the corrupt brass!
