How high does your IQ score have to be to qualify for membership in Mensa, high IQ society?

Mensa (latin word for table) is a high IQ (short for intelligence quotient) society with members all around the world.

MENSA is mainly a society where people of similar intellect can communicate, meet, learn and have fun.

To qualify for membership, one has to have taken an approved intelligence test and scored in the upper 2%, or a score higher than 98% of the population. The test needs to be administered and supervised properly, by approved individuals or institutions.

Four areas are tested on a standard IQ test; verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory and processing speed. Scores can vary between areas, and it's possible to get a very low score in one area, and a very high score in another. The mean between those scores determines one's IQ.

Many other kinds of intelligence do exist, but have not been a part of the standard IQ tests so far.

I have been told by many people that I would qualify for Densa, which covers the other end of the spectrum.

I passed the Mensa test years ago and was invited to join. However, I prefer to spend my life in the company of those with a high emotional IQ. It’s been my experience over 76 years on this earth, that the two - intellectual and emotional IQ - are often not present in the same individual. Some of the people I’m closest to, including my husband of more than 53 years, have nowhere near my level of intellect, but I couldn’t care less, because they’re good, kind, loving people.

I have met people that had extremely high IQs, but could not function in real life because they had no common sense whatsoever. 🙄

I was tested & I know my I.Q. score. Some people have higher scores & some people have lower scores. To me what is important is the content of your character & not an I.Q. score.

There were two tests when I joined, the first was as described, but as it was in English there was a second one claiming to be culturally neutral can't remember much about it though, fortunately memory isn't part of the test.

I make instant judgements determined only by how people treat animals. I don't care if you can't add 2+2 and come up with four or if you can solve string theory.

Joy Holbrook, In the UK we used to take something called the 11 plus. It determined what kind of high school we went to. Knowing this and the homework and expectations that would follow I slowed down doing the tests. Although invited to join as an adult I never did.

In my experience as a teacher A and C have less to do with IQ than do industry (slog) and knowledge of what to please the examiner! Plenty plenty of high and higher IQs do poorly academically due to boredom or high spirits.

I don't know my IQ. If I were tested for it, I probably wouldn't have finished the test. My GT in the Army was pretty good. I bet we have lots of Mensa ppl on Quizzclub and I'm not as smart as them.
