How long does it take Jupiter to orbit the Sun?

The planet Jupiter is the fifth planet out from the Sun, and is two and a half times more massive than all the other planets in the solar system combined. Jupiter orbits the Sun once every 11.86 years.

From our point of view on earth, it appears to move slowly in the sky, taking months to move from one constellation to another.

I truly think 11.86 years is close to 12 years when rounded up. The answer was pretty stingy on the part of the quizzers, talk about nitpicking Bonnie

William Laughlin, I suppose looking at the days alone is a good way to resolve it. It was the only answer with a decimal in the days. I was focusing on the years and knew not to choose a flat twelve. Thank you, Christine, James' wife

Actually - popular theory is that the Sun and Jupiter actually orbit each other with an epicentre somewhere in between. The point is therefore a bit of conjecture. But in any case I think 12 years is pretty close
