How many countries ends with the suffix "-stan"?
Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The suffix "-stan" is analogous to the suffix -land, present in many country and location names. Some of these nations were also known with the Latinate suffix -ia during their time as Soviet republics: Turkmenistan was frequently Turkmenia, Kyrgyzstan often Kirghizia, and even Uzbekistan was very rarely Uzbekia.

Here to state even my country that's India is also known by name "Hindustan".. the land where "Hindus" reside..the Moghul invaders used to refer "India" as "Hindustan" for invading our country....it's the British who gave our country's name "India".while colonizi ng our country..before they came to our country it's was known by name "Hindustan" & "Bharath"..to add ..the first car rolled was named "Hindustan"..that's in early 50's..

I can remember about 12 or 13 years ago my then partner in Dallas was a subscriber to a news letter whose name I cannot remember although it began with the letter "S" and there was an article in that which referred to them as "Chaostan".
