In Africa, the equator runs along for almost 2500 miles, passing through seven (7) countries, and ironically the list does not include Equatorial Guinea. The seven countries in Africa the equator does run through include: Gabon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire), Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, and Sao Torne and Principe. The African countries that are on both sides of the equator.

In addition to the seven African countries that the equator passes through on both sides, it also passes through other nations in the world. They are Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Maldives, Indonesia, and Kiribati.

The equator represents a great circle that is equal distance from both poles on the Earth, the North and South Poles. It divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The tropics are more likely to be found around the equator and as a result, temperatures are consistently hotter in these areas of the world than any others.
