Waxahachie Texas, located south of the Dallas/Forth Worth area, has been listed by some as the "Movie Capital of Texas" with over 30 films to its credit.

Filmmaking began here with Bonnie and Clyde, scripted by Waxahachie native Robert Benton, which was filmed in 1967. It reached its pinnacle in the early 1980’s when Benton returned to his former hometown to write and direct the Oscar-winning feature Places in the Heart, starring Sally Field.

This has brought greats like; Robert Duvall for "Tender Mercies" (1983), Sally Field, John Malkovich and Danny Glover for "Places in the Heart" (1984) and Geraldine Page as Mrs. Watts, in "The Trip to Bountiful" (1985). All Academy Award winners.

The small screen has also made the trip to Waxahachie with TV movies and shows. The TV film Bonnie and Clyde: The Real Story, starring Tracey Needham and Dana Ashbrook for the Fox Network and the great Chuck Norris was a regular around town with "Walker, Texas Ranger" and most currently with USA Networks "Queen of the South".
