How many pennies have been minted by The United States Mint?
The United States Mint has never struck a Penny. The U.S. Mint's official name for a penny is "cent" that is 1/100 Dollar and the U.S. Treasury's official name is "one cent piece". The colloquial term penny derives from the British coin of the same name, the pre-decimal version of which had a similar value, that is 1/100 Pound Sterling.

I do get tired of poor questions. I don't like trick questions nor do I like has a answered based on statistics or research studies. I doubt a question like this would have been posed by Alex Trebeq!

Yeah trick questions dont really belong here in my opinion. At least not to this extent. Theyre still pennies to probably 99.9% of us.

So what did this question teach the community? Nothing, zilch, nada, nil.

There have been 288+ billion pennies minted, so over 200 billion is actually correct. Didn't know the author needed the exact amount, so the answer is WRONG! How do so many wrong or incredibly vague questions and answers do we have to be subjected to before we get sick of playing and QUIT?

Trick Question. Who ever heard of "Cents from Heaven"?
LibraryLady
I got this correct by using my 2 chances. But the correct answer should be "over 1 billion". Why? Because the actual answer is 13 billion, which is clearly OVER 1 Billion! "None of the above" is technically incorrect. The explanation shown here does not even tie into the answer choices. This question is wrong on so many levels.

Then why does BankRate.Com call them pennies i.e." There are more than 130 billion one-cent coins currently in circulation. Since its beginning, the U.S. Mint has produced more than 288.7 billion pennies. "

Hahahaha, that is so funny, NOT. I do NOT like misleading/trick questions!
Yes, it is called a cent but have you ever heard anyone call it anything other than a penny?!
I prefer straight forward questions with straight forward answers. I gave this question a big fat 👎!!!

This is just wrong! Technically it is correct that the "penny" is actually a cent. However, the common, most widely used term in the U.S is penny.

The real trivia question here is, “What is ‘Semantics?’”

Whenever there’s an option of all of the above or none of the above, choose it.

Yes and I was looking forward to learning how many Pennies or one cent have been minted in the US.
randebo
So how many one cent pieces have been minted?
Perk
Pitiful question. If I reviewed it, I would have declined it.

What a pathetic trick question with a totally nitpicky answer!! The coins are always referred to as pennies, The answer of "over 100 billion" should be considered correct. The bit about "one cent piece" should have been an end note to the question.
shootit
If they’re not called pennies then why was the treasury deciding to discontinue the ‘penny’?
Dr. Bhoomz
Very bad worded question. The correct answer should be Apx. over 288 Billion.

Another TRICK question. Trickery is never a good thing. This still leaves people wondering just how many pennies, or ONE CENT PIECES, have been made, because this TRICK question has answered nothing to MOST of us who know what a Penny is.

Bad question , if the person asking had asked how
many cents have been produced by the …….. forget
it not worth the effort . Dumb question in my opinion 🤪
