Do you respond to everyone who says something you don't like to prove what a shrew you can be? My comments are academic, while yours are personal. You're making as big a fuss over my comment as I do over shoddy, unprofessional writing. The only difference is if the authors of this site listened to me, the site would be more professional, thus better for everyone. The only one who benefits by your comment is you in your sad attempt to feel superior to me. Perhaps you can't even recognize bad writing when you read it. Maybe you don't know the difference, but those with standards do. Never mind that what I'm saying is correct, let's attack the messenger. By the way, my comment is not pessimistic in any way. Do you even understand the meaning of the word? If anything, I'm optimistic in the hope someone, someday, will eventually listen and learn to write properly. Silly me. With responses like yours, it seems I'm casting pearls before swine!

STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT! I have repeatedly asked this site to stop using the odd phrasing of, "coped to" followed by a verb. Who speaks like this? Certainly no one who speaks English as a first language does! The copy reads, "But Alan Shepard, for example, even coped to... play golf on the Moon, making it the first sport to be played there." There is absolutely no need to use those words and doing so results in an oddly worded sentence. Simply stated, the sentence should read as, "For example, Alan Shepard even played golf on the Moon, making it the first sport to be played there.

William Laughlin I'm with you on this topic. I initially thought it meant to read 'hoped to' until I scrolled to the comments. I am a working class lady from England with a fair education but it does peave me when I read bad grammar or spelling. However, on that subject , the US has been changing the correct English spelling of words for decades.....bless 'em.

A little tolerance here. This is an Internationally shared site. How many languages does the average American speak? Think about it. We can "cope" with a few typos and interesting syntax from time to time, can't we?

I have to agree with you, William. It bothers me completely when I see something that's passing itself off as professional looking so UNprofessional. There's been many times where I've cringed at the wording of these explanations/descriptions. Unfortunately, I also cringe when I see the misuses of their/there/they're, your/you're, and to/two/too. It's elementary stuff and shouldn't be so hard to get right. I think the problem is that people just don't care how it looks or comes across.

Sarah Hearn-vonFoerster You are late to this party. This site has repeatedly used this odd phrasing, so often it has become an issue with me. Until recently, I have not commented publicly very much about this issue. Initially, I contacted them directly, many, many, many times, to no avail. It was finally acknowledged by them with this tirade. As you can see, they have edited their copy to read as i suggested. The issue is not how many languages Americans speak. The issue is that they are using English on this site and doing it poorly. Yes, we can cope with the shoddiness of their writing skills, but why should we have to? This is a professional site that makes money selling ads, but cannot seem to master writing skills and when suggestions are sent to try to make it better, those suggestions are ignored. It's that simple.

Tracy Duray, he is only trying to improve this trivia site for better enjoyment for everyone. I appreciate his comments. He is never pessimistic, usually educational.

Aren't these all American astronauts? What about the Russians who landed and walked on the moon? The number must surely be more than 12.

Having read all the comments belatedly, my support, no big surprise, is with William for whom I have the greatest respect.

I had only heard of 'Moonfighting'. Fortunately read one such in the comments below. Surely QuizzClub can be used for many more purposes than those earlier envisaged. Expressions expressed explicitly but harmlessly ! Thanks for the enjoyment Gentlemen !!

akaumbra, What is the van ellan belt? If you are going to try to sound intelligent try to use correct names and correct spelling. I think you're trying to convey a conspiracy theory debunking space travel due to the presence of the Van Allen radiation belt. I know this is an old topic but this the first time it's been in my inbox, I can't respond to something before I see it.

Meanwhile, back to the question at hand: How could people come up with "5" as the answer? Geez, every moon shot had two astronauts walking on the moon. I admit, I had to count the missions, 11 thru 17, to come up with the answer. Remember, Apollo 13 never landed, but what a magnificient "failure"!!
