Squirrels include prairie dogs, chipmunks and marmots. There are over 200 species of squirrels worldwide. There are three types: the tree squirrels, ground squirrels and flying squirrels. In North America, the most common type of squirrel is the eastern gray squirrel which is an essential natural forest regenerator.

It is not advised to feed squirrels in your backyard as they can become persistent and pesky. Squirrels can leap more than 6 metres and have a very keen sense of smell and build nests in trees which are called dray which are about the size of footballs. Squirrels are often seen playing with each other which is mistaken for fighting.
