The Eiffel Tower is a wrought iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. The Champ de Mars is a large public greenspace, located in the seventh arrondissement. The 7th arrondissement of Paris is one of the 20 arrondissements or administrative districts. It is named after engineer Gustava Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. The tower is 324 metres (1,063ft) tall, about the same height as as an 81-storey building. Climbing from ground level to the last level is 1710 steps. The Eiffel Tower or La Tour Eiffel in French, was the main exhibit of the Paris Exposition or World Fair of 1889. It was constructed to commemorate the cetennial of the French Revolution and to demonstrate France's industrial prowess to the world.
