A color wheel, or color circle, is an illustrative organization of color hues around a circle which shows the relationships between primary colors, secondary colors, tertiary colors, etc. On it are 6 tertiary colors, which are combinations of primary and secondary colors. The 6 colors are: red-orange, yellow orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue violet, and red-violet.

An easy way to remember them is to place the primary name before the other ones. So then, for example, the primary color of blue when mixed with secondary green becomes 'blue-green '.

This color wheel is one of the basic fundamentals to know when about to embark on the painting and color schemes in your home or office; it's just the tip of the iceberg of good decorating. The "theory of color" is actually quite intensive.

The first circular color diagram was designed by Sir Issac Newton in 1666.
