How many US states have names beginning with C?

In fact, this task is quite easy, it just requires a little thinking. There are three US States that begin with the letter C. They are:

California (CA) - Of course, California was the first state that came to your mind, as it is one of the most popular states in the country. A note from history: although California was sighted by Spanish navigator Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542, its first Spanish mission was not established until 1769.
Colorado (CO) - First visited by Spanish explorers in the 1500s, the territory was claimed for Spain by Juan de Ulibarri in 1706.
Connecticut (CT) -The Dutch navigator, Adriaen Block, was the first European of record to explore the area, sailing up the Connecticut River in 1614.

Amazing. Where do the Carolinas fall alphabetically in the list of 50 states? One is in the N section and the other is in the S section. Simply Amazing.

Good question, Steve. When I first looked at it, I thought "That's a pretty stupid question. Obvously anyone can count the C states." From all the comments this has engendered, I guess I was wrong.

Ohm I understand your thinking but both South Carolina and North Carolina are two word names. You need to use both words together to make the name. Neither state has "two names". They each have "one " name, therefore there can only be one letter that begins the name of each state, and that would be S and N.
