How old was Tony Blair when he became Prime Minister of Great Britain?
Anthony Charles Lynton Blair (Tony Blair) was 43 years old when he became Prime Minister of Great Britain. He was a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007. He was also the Leader of the Labour Party from 1994 to 2007. After his resignation, he was appointed Special Envoy of the Quartet on the Middle East, an office which he held until 2015.
Born at Queen Mary Maternity Home in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 6, 1953, Blair obtained his early education at Chorister School, Durham, England and Fettes College, a private co-educational independent boarding and day school in Edinburgh, Scotland. Blair's higher education came at his alma mater, St John's College (1975), Oxford Inns of Court, England.
During his first term as Prime Minister, Blair raised taxes; introduced a National Minimum Wage and some new employment rights; introduced significant constitutional reforms; promoted new rights for gay people in the Civil Partnership Act 2004; and signed treaties integrating the UK more closely with the European Union (EU). He did these things while simultaneously serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and performing duties as the First Lord of the Treasury, the Minister for the Civil Service, the Leader of the Labour Party (until Gordon Brown was declared Labour leader on June 24, 2007), and the Member of Parliament for Sedgefield.
