Alberto R. Gonzales who was born on August 4, 1955 was the 80th United States Attorney General, appointed in February 2005 by President George W. Bush. He became the highest-ranking Hispanic American in executive government at the time.

Gonzales grew up in San Antonio, Texas as the son of a construction worker. He rose to become U.S. attorney general, and he started the job in 2005. Not long after, he faced scrutiny for firing several U.S. attorneys. The firings became the subject of a Senate Judiciary Committee in 2007. A few months later, however, Gonzales decided to step down.

His resignation was effective on September 17, 2007. In the resignation letter, he said that "...this is the right time for my family and I to begin a new chapter in our lives." He and his wife Rebecca with their three sons then left the Washington, D.C. political establishment.

Nowadays, Gonzales is the Dean of Belmont University College of Law, in Nashville, Tennessee. And, he works as a lawyer at the Nashville based law firm of Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis. In the firm, he likes to advise clients on government and regulatory matters. Also, when he finds the time, he often writes opinion pieces for national newspapers and appears on national news programs.

Currently, in 2016, he has now been ranked one of "Newsmax's 50 Most Influential Latino Republicans".
