Lydia Wood, art in all it's forms (music, painting, drama, etc.) is most importantly about self expression, whether one likes it or not. I didn't like rap for a long time, and still won't listen to misogynistic lyrics, but some of the artists write very moving and/or descriptive songs that are worth hearing!

I like all types of music. All of you who are bashing rap music, just know its the #1 selling musical genre. Rap is a complex art form. Some rappers can read, write music and sing. I'm one of them. My rap songs are christian based or educational. I also produce my own music, play live instruments and I'm a professional DJ.

Rap music isn’t music. I was trained as a classical musician. Classical composers are turning over in their graves! Rappers can rhyme and set that rhyme to a beat. From what I’ve heard, not one rapper has the ability to sing, has had music theory class, or can even read music. I’ve had the honor to play on the Kennedy Center Concert Hall stage. It’s a disgrace to those of us who have had true musical experiences

Keith Hennessey, so acapella groups aren't music? Street-corner doo-wop? The Mormon Tabernacle Choir (or any other choirs without instruments)? Christmas Carols? Madrigals? There are plenty of instruments in Rap and Hip-Hop. All the "real" bands you listed are from the 60s and 70s - you have a very limited definition of "music".
